It Began in Afrika..
From a small club called Club Africa in 1992, Shindig grew into a name that set the pace for electronic music in Newcastle. Over the years it has produced a wide range of events in different venues and locations. From two day gatherings to site focused projects, the journey has included a long list of leading artists from across electronic music and beyond.
With a clear influence on Newcastle’s music landscape since the early 90s, Shindig helped shape the creative energy and sense of community that defines the North East.
As a pillar of the region’s club and rave culture, Shindig has curated and delivered a broad set of events and worked with many of the most respected acts in electronic music. The result has been some of the most memorable dance floor moments in the North East and across the UK.
More than one thousand events. More than one point two million tickets sold. Shows ranging from small two hundred capacity nights to ten thousand capacity arena productions and outdoor gatherings at Gateshead Stadium, Spillers Wharf and Baltic Square across both sides of the river.
Shindig has also hosted multiple BBC Radio 1 broadcasts including several Live Essential Mix recordings in Newcastle Upon Tyne, most recently Carl Cox live from Times Square..
